MANILA, Philippines—A 9-year-old Filipino football standout has been accepted to FCB Escola, the academy of one of the world’s biggest clubs, FC Barcelona, in Spain.

DepEd approves PAREF Schools’ K to 12 Transition Plan

The Department of Education approved last June 15, 2012 the K to 12 Transition Plan of the PAREF Schools.  Ms. Carmelita G. Salgado, PAREF Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, submitted the plan on May 17, 2012 to Assistant Secretary Tonisito Umali.


PAREF Westbridge student gets perfect score in HK Math Tilt

MANILA, Philippines – A Filipino student won the country's lone gold medal at the recently concluded 15th Po Leung Kuk Primary Mathematics World Contest in Hong Kong.

Miguel Lorenzo Ildesa of PAREF Westbridge School received a perfect score in the individual competition, earning him the gold medal.

The Philippine contingent also won four silver and five bronze medals, and two group merit awards.

“The Philippine Team won ten individual medals and two group merit awards in the contest. We are very proud of their performance,” said Dr. Simon Chua, president of the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines (MTG), which trains students for competitions.

Filipino students who won silver medals include Sedrick Scott Keh of Xavier School, Rafael Villaluz of San Beda College Alabang, Shaquille Wyan Que of Grace Christian College, and Terence Brian Tsai of Chiang Kai Shek College.

Bronze medalists, meanwhile, include Mark Christopher Uy of Xavier School, Jinger Chong of Saint Jude Catholic School, Luke Matthew Bernardo of Philadelphia School, Xavier Jefferson Ray Go of Zamboanga Chong Hua Academy and Genesis Jacinth Tan of Quezon City Science High School.

The 15th Po Leung Kuk Primary Mathematics World Contest was held in Hong Kong from July 14 to 20.

Aside from the Philippines, other countries that participated in the competition include United States, Australia, Bulgaria, Russia, South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, Macau, Singapore, South Africa, Indonesia and Mongolia.
