PAREF Southcrest School, the first
PAREF School in Cebu, started in October 1993 and it is this school
which eventually gave rise to the PAREF Springdale School for Boys.
It was foreseen that the boys from the first batch of SK graduates
of Southcrest would need a school of their own, and so, PAREF Springdale
School was conceptualized.
A group of Cebu based families wanted for their
sons a school set-up along the same educational thrusts and philosophy
as the PAREF Schools in Manila. In 1995, this group of parents,
well aware of their mission as the principal educators of their
sons, came together with some teachers to set up the PAREF-Springdale
community. Through this academic institution, professional teachers
collaborate with the parents in their mission, by providing a balanced
and demanding academic and personal formation for their sons. Through
the community of parents and its formative activities, the parents
explicitly spearhead the total formation of their sons.
In June 1996, the School opened with an initial
27 students distributed among the first three grade levels. The
first Executive Director was Mr. Donato Duran, and the first Chairman
of the School Board of Trustees is Mr. David Reyes. Mr. Gerard Benjamin
Fortunato succeeded Mr. Duran as the Executive Director in 1997,
as the school year opened and student population increased to 86
students, clearly signifying the markedly good impression that the
school made in its freshman year. Since that time, the school has
opened a new grade level each academic year. At present, PAREF Springdale
School offers Grade 1 to First Year High School.
